Zdeněk P. Bažant is the only engineer among 10 foreign members out of 47 fellows elected this year to the Royal Society of London.
One of just a few top-cited researchers in his field, Bažant is best known for his discovery of the scaling law for the energetic size effect in quasibrittle structural failure.
He is also the author of the microplane material model suitable for modeling brittle materials such as concrete. The versions M4 and M7 of this unique material model are also available in ATENA software.
